Banks can unlock the power of AI, cloud and confidential computing to deliver greater client value, even while navigating stricter regulations and geopolitical uncertainty, according to Euroclear and Microsoft at Sibos 2025.

Antonio Albuquerque Quelroz, chief digital officer for Euroclear, and Christian Sarafidis, chief executive for EMEA financial services at Microsoft, outlined practical approaches for data management and collaboration across the banking ecosystem.

“Incremental change is not going to be enough,” said Sarafidis, highlighting the need for actionable strategies that move beyond isolated data points.

Quelroz agreed, noting the pressures that keep banks awake at night: “We have more constraints that we need to follow. We are only as relevant as the problems we solve for clients. Continuing to deliver value – and preparing the next generation of users for what’s next – is crucial.”

Geopolitical volatility adds another layer of complexity.

“It’s part of the way we have to operate, and we need to do it in a way that keeps us busy,” said Quelroz, who described Euroclear’s year-long deliberation before partnering with Microsoft to ensure all regulatory guardrails were in place.

A recently published Euroclear paper further explores what it means to be a frontier capital markets firm, highlighting data as a strategic asset.
