Microsoft and the Tomillo Foundation, an organisation that develops regulated vocational training, are offering training in data centre operations to young people in response to the growing demand for qualified talent in technology in Spain.
The Data Center Academy was set up in Madrid, Spain, to provide hands-on training, mentorship, certifications and job opportunities in data centre operations. It does this, for example, by providing access to a learning space that simulates work environments in a data centre.

“Job openings in data centres are increasing, however, there is still a gap between the skills these centres require and the training of available professionals,” said Paco Salcedo, president of Microsoft Spain. “If we want to lead the new AI economy, Spain needs to improve its training and talent attraction, and strengthen our capabilities in computing and data infrastructure. Initiatives like this help develop inclusive digital talent by bringing job opportunities in data centres and cloud operations to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.”
The programme has benefited 40 students in the 2024-2025 academic year and Microsoft and the Tomillo Foundation expect to help 70 people next year.
