A beta version of Skype for Web is now available for all new and existing users in the US and UK.
Skype for Web is an important step for Skype as it looks to implement the technology to make real-time communications on the web a reality.
Any users that visit skype.com in the US and UK can sign in and connect to Skype for Web and begin a conversation without downloading the Skype app.
Once users sign into Skype for Web, their contacts and conversations will load in a matter of seconds. Regardless of whether they usually use Skype on a mobile, tablet, native desktop app or a TV, users’ latest chats will be ready to respond to in the browser.
Other updates include in the introduction of a timeline view, which provides a single, searchable list that makes it easier for users to start new conversations and find existing ones.
Skype for Web enables users to get into video calls, instant messaging and audio calling quickly from any desktop browser, and users receive notifications whenever they receive an instant message, audio or video call, even if they are viewing something else on another browser window.
Skype for Web will be rolled out worldwide over the new few weeks.
