Global glassware packaging firm Piramal Glass has deployed the Microsoft Azure internet of things (IoT) platform to digitally transform its manufacturing operations and speed up decision making. The company has implemented the real-time manufacturing insights (RTMI) solution in its four plants in India, Sri Lanka and the US.

Piramal Glass is using the IoT solution to get real-time insights in its line manufacturing operations and to analyse production line losses. Using the Azure IoT Hub, Piramal can acquire data from production line sensors to identify quality parameters at each stage and get real-time insights on line efficiencies. By using Microsoft technology, Piramal has improved its production efficiency and reduced costs.

“As the world’s most preferred supplier of glass packaging solutions, Piramal Glass is committed to continuously adding value to its customers,” said Vijay Shah, director of Piramal Glass. “We are happy to have collaborated with Microsoft on our journey towards digital transformation and business critical future readiness. Glass manufacturing is a complex process with many interactive variables. Combining digital technologies with precision high-quality glass manufacturing, has helped us fortify our accelerated growth path.”

Microsoft partner Precimetrix, offered its Plant Monitoring System hosted on Microsoft Azure, to facilitate Piramal’s digital transformation by providing stage-wise losses and production reports. SMS, email and push notification alerts are sent when an anomaly is detected or the production efficiency drops. RTMI has made real-time information accessible to all plant stakeholders, enabling them to make faster decisions.

“Microsoft is committed towards the technological advancement of the manufacturing sector in India,” said Sashi Sreedharan, managing director of Microsoft India. “We are excited to partner with Piramal Glass as they create a strong foundation for driving transformational change. It is significant that Microsoft technology enabled plant operations to continue as usual during the roll out of the Azure IoT solution, ensuring no disruption to the core manufacturing and deep integration with critical business processes.”
