As part of the Microsoft for Startups and Nvidia Inception programme, Basecamp Research has been provided with the tools and resources needed to drive its research.

The Basecamp Research team aims to digitise nature and transform biological material into data to bridge the gap between biotechnology and biodiversity. Its aim is to create the world’s largest database of biological protein sequences.

By combining Microsoft Azure’s scalable cloud foundation with Nvidia’s full-stack AI, Basecamp Research can process and analyse data generated from DNA sequencing and biological analysis at increased speeds, further accelerating their research.

In addition, AI and machine learning tools from Azure and Nvidia will help Basecamp Research to derive insights from its data. The team can use Azure Machine Learning and Nvidia BioNeMo frameworkto build, train and deploy sophisticated AI models that can predict and identify patterns in biological data.

“At its heart, Basecamp Research as a company is built on this idea that biology has the answers and the process of evolution has led to this really, truly remarkable complex system that shouldn’t work and yet, and yet it does,” said Phoebe Oldach, vice president of data growth at Basecamp Research. “Fundamentally, we’re so reliant on biodiversity and being able to study it and understand it is one of the most important things that you can do.”
