Copilot’s agentic capabilities are now generally available across Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, supporting users with AI-assisted reasoning, data analysis, multi-step editing and more.

The AI-powered assistant can draft, restructure and rewrite text or make tone suggestions in Word documents, or help users understand data and apply changes to Excel workbooks in real time to inform decision-making. It can also help to update slides on PowerPoint with the most relevant talking points to ensure users can deliver up-to-date presentations.

Microsoft’s Work IQ layer will keep Copilot grounded within each Microsoft application and ensure it has access to necessary information to better understand user intent and generate relevant prompts.

The latest updates to the AI-powered assistant’s models mean it goes beyond simply answering questions to take app-native actions designed to speed up processes and increase quality of the final output.

“This agentic evolution of Copilot within Word, Excel and PowerPoint feels magical, as it can now take on high-level tasks and execute them like a human would,” said Sumit Chauhan, president of office product group at Microsoft, in a recent blog post.

According to Microsoft, its data shows increased user engagement, retention and satisfaction over the past month. Satisfaction levels have risen 21 per cent, 65 per cent and 25 per cent in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, respectively.
