M-Files develops new AI capabilities for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Agent Builder

Updates will allow organisations to generate more accurate and permission-aware outputs

M-Files, a global provider of document management solutions, has launched new AI capabilities for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Builder to help organisations generate more accurate, permission-aware outputs using context-enriched enterprise content.

The updates build on M-Files’ partnership with Microsoft and enable customers to access M-Files content natively within Microsoft 365, while benefiting from its context-first document management approach.

The new capabilities ensure AI outputs are grounded in M-Files’ permission model so that surfaced content respects user access rights and aligns with organisational policies. They also provide contextual information that helps Copilot and Agent Builder understand relationships between business concepts such as customers, processes, parts and contracts, enabling deeper insights and more effective automation.

In addition, employees can find and use M-Files content directly within Microsoft 365, reducing time spent searching across systems and helping organisations maximise the value of their existing Microsoft investments.

“Many organisations are realising that AI is only as strong as the information behind it,” said Ryan Barry, vice president of strategic operations and corporate development at M-Files. “Without the right context, even the most advanced models struggle to deliver accurate, actionable insights or reliably execute agentic workflows.”

John Mighell, director of product marketing for SharePoint and OneDrive at Microsoft, added: “We’re seeing strong market demand for our solutions with M-Files, which is a direct result of the deep collaboration across our teams.”

Microsoft recently recognised M-Files as its 2025 Marketplace Solution Partner of the Year in Finland. The company is also the first document management system to leverage SharePoint Embedded to help organisations maximise the value of their Microsoft investments.
