Microsoft and Telefónica to drive Spain’s digital transformation

Microsoft and Telefónica are building on their partnership to accelerate digital transformation for public and private organisations in Spain. Microsoft also has plans to open a new data centre region in the country to further its technological competitiveness.

Microsoft will deliver cloud services, including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Power Platform, from the new data centre region. Telefónica will also accelerate its own digital transformation by choosing Microsoft as its cloud partner.

“Telefónica and Microsoft share a commitment to helping Spanish organisations of all sizes, in every industry, thrive in a world of rapid technological change,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “Together, we will deliver comprehensive, intelligent, secure and trusted cloud services from data centres in Spain, helping our customers accelerate their digital transformations.”

The firms’ joint capabilities will allow their customers to deliver new services that require low latency, security and assured bandwidth, which could create new opportunities in 5G, edge computing and Industry 4.0.

“The opening of a Microsoft data centre region in Spain is a game changer, a key milestone in our strategic partnership that will boost Spain’s industrial fabric and digital economy,” said José María Álvarez-Pallete, CEO of Telefónica.
