The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) will launch a new Diversity Symposium at NAB Show 2021. The programme will address strategies for developing and fostering diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) in the media industry.

The symposium will take place on 10 October and is open to all attendees.

“The value of this new programme cannot be overstated,” said Michelle Duke, chief diversity officer (CDO) at NAB. “The last year has made it clear that businesses need to take a more active role in creating and developing more inclusive and diverse workplaces, and we are excited for the role NAB has to lead a culture of change.”

The programme will begin with a roundtable of CDOs from The E.W. Scripps Company, iHeartMedia and TEGNA who will explore how to develop diversity initiatives in media organisations. Sessions will also cover building effective employee resources groups and DE&I committees, the impact of diverse leadership, and how intersectionality can affect reporting, news coverage and production.

In a session titled ‘More than a seat at the table: the impact of inclusive leadership and sponsorship’, executives from iHeartMedia, KITV4 Island Television and COX Media Group will discuss leadership as individuals in groups that are underrepresented in media and the positive impact of creating an active culture of inclusion at their organisations.
